Svensmark’s new solar theory of climate change
In the last decade a new theory, developed by Henrik Svensmark a physics professor at the Danish National Space Centre in Copenhagen, about how variations in the Sun’s magnetic activity may have very a profound impact on climate on earth has attracted growing interest in the scientific community. The theory, explained in the video documentary below, proposes a link between fluctuations in the sun’s magnetic activity and resulting changes in the solar wind around the earth affecting how many cosmic rays hit the earth, particularly the lower atmosphere, which in turn affect the rate of low level cloud formation which in turn drives climate variability.
This documentary about Svensmark’s theory, in two parts below, comprehensively covers the key aspects of his work and includes interviews and contributions from a number of scientists. Please note that the quality of the video is not that good, it has Finnish subtitles although the soundtrack is in English and the music soundtrack is, in my opinion, rather incongruous at times. Nevertheless it is very informative and interesting.
